Taxonomy
Skyles salsus was named by Saul and Popenoe (1993). Its type specimen is LACMIP 11567 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CIT loc. 1212, Little Cow Creek Valley, which is in a Turonian marine horizon in the Redding Formation of California.
