Taxonomy
Aphanoptyxis andersoni was named by Saul and Squires (1998). Its type specimen is CASO 66460.02 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CASG loc. 66460, North Fork Cottonwood Creek, which is in a Hauterivian marine siliciclastic in the Budden Canyon Formation of California.
