Taxonomy
Volutoderma blakei was named by Saul and Squires (2008). Its type specimen is LACMIP 13174 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCLA Loc. 2415, Bee Canyon, which is in a Campanian coastal sandstone in the Williams Formation of California.
