Taxonomy
Volutoderma ynezae was named by Saul and Squires (2008). Its type specimen is LACMIP 13204 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CIT loc. 590, Jalama Ranch Creek, which is in a Maastrichtian offshore sandstone in the Jalama Formation of California.
