Taxonomy

Hsisosuchus was named by Young and Chow (1953). Its type is Hsisosuchus chungkingensis.

It was assigned to Sebecosuchia by Charig (1967); to Mesosuchia by Gasparini (1984); to Hsisosuchidae by Carroll (1988); to Crocodyliformes by Pol and Norell (2004), Zaher et al. (2006), Gasparini et al. (2006), Clark (2011); to Crocodyliformes by Nascimento and Zaher (2011), Bronzati et al. (2012); to Mesoeucrocodylia by Fiorelli and Calvo (2008), Martin et al. (2010), Sertich and O'Connor (2014); and to Shartegosuchidae by Dollman et al. (2018).
