Taxonomy
Gabbioceras was named by Hyatt (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-u K Ceno-l]. It is the type genus of Gabbioceratinae.

It was reranked as Lytoceras (Gabbioceras) by Anderson (1902) and Anderson (1938).

It was assigned to Silesitidae by Hyatt (1900); to Lytoceras by Anderson (1902) and Anderson (1938); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Gabbioceratinae by Murphy (1967), Murphy (1967), Wright et al. (1996) and Szives (2007); and to Gabbioceratini by Hoffmann (2010).
