It was assigned to Alligatoridae by Schmidt (1938), Bartels (1984), Carroll (1988); to Alligatorinae by Wu et al. (1996), Brochu (1999), Martin and Lauprasert (2010), Pinheiro et al. (2013); to Globidonta by Farke et al. (2014), Massonne et al. (2019); and to Caimaninae by Rio and Mannion (2021).
