Natica posuncula was named by Hanna and Hertlein (1938) [m. kosnik taxon no: 10162]. Its type specimen is CAS 7084 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Natica (Naticarius) posuncula by Addicott (1970) and Marincovich (1977).
