Lunatia hornii was named by Gabb (1864) [m. kosnik taxon no: 10102].

It was recombined as Polynices hornii by Gabb (1864) and Waring (1917); it was recombined as Polinices hornii by Stewart (1927) and Turner (1938); it was recombined as Polinices (Euspira) hornii by Clark and Woodford (1927); it was recombined as Natica hornii by Hanna (1927); it was recombined as Polinices (Polinices) hornii by Marincovich (1977) and Kiessling (2003).
