Pachycardia plieningeri was named by Broili (1904). It is not extant. Its type locality is Pachycardientuff Fauna, Seiser Alm, which is in a Longobardian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Cassian Formation of Italy.
It was synonymized subjectively with Pachycardia rugosa by Waagen (1907).
