Xanthiopyxis microspinosa was named by Andrews (1976). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Zone 17, which is in a Serravallian shoreface sandstone in the Choptank Formation of Maryland.
