Difficilicrinus coneyi was named by Frest et al. (1979). It is not extant. Its type specimen is SUI 44748. Its type locality is Difficilicrinus coneyi type locality, which is in a Blackriveran marine horizon in the Benbolt Formation of Virginia. It is the type species of Difficilicrinus.
