Psilocalyx was named by Ijima (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Hexactinosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tretodictyinae by Reid (2004).
