Delorhynchus was named by Fox (1962). It is not extant. Its type is Delorhynchus priscus. It was considered monophyletic by Reisz et al. (2014).
It was assigned to Nitosauridae by Fox (1962); to Eothyrididae by Langston (1965); to Pelycosauria by Reisz (1986); to Pelycosauria by Carroll (1988); to Parareptilia by Modesto (1999); to Ankyramorpha by Reisz et al. (2014); and to Acleistorhinidae by Cisneros et al. (2020).
