Pleurochorium was named by Schrammen (1912) [Sepkoski's age data: K u R]. It is extant. Its type is Pleurochorium schulzei.

It was assigned to Hexactinosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Euretinae by Finks et al. (2004).
