Taxonomy
Echinarachinus brewerianus was named by Remond (1863).

It was recombined as Clypeaster brewerianus by Merriam (1899) and Clark and Twitchell (1915); it was recombined as Astrodapsis brewerianus by Kew (1920), Grant and Hertlein (1938), Durham (1955) and Hall (1962).
