Taxonomy
Catopterus anguilliformis was named by Redfield (1841). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Westfield, Middletown, which is in a Hettangian terrestrial shale/siltstone in the East Berlin Formation of Connecticut.

It was recombined as Redfieldius anguilliformis by Hay (1902).
