Taxonomy
Scutella tuomeyi was named by Clark and Twitchell (1915). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Fort Motte station, 14 miles south of, which is in an Eocene marine sandstone in the McBean Formation of South Carolina.
It was recombined as Protoscutella tuomeyi by Cooke (1942).
