Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
A. G. Martinelli and G. W. Rougier 2007Small probainognathian differing from other ictidosaurs, except Elliotherium, by the presence of 13 maxillary postcanines being the last four teeth posterior and medial to the anterior border of the subtemporal fossa. It differs from Pachygenelus, Diarthrognathus, and Tritheledon by presence of upper and lower postcanines lacking labial cingulum. It differs from Elliotherium by presence of smaller upper and lower canines, and a zygomatic arch that is slender along all its length. An autapomorphy of Chaliminia in comparison with other ictidosaurs is the presence of a fourth incisor apparently in the maxilla, close to the canine; this feature, however, could be plesiomorphic.
