Otolithus (Congridarum) mysticus was named by Frost (1934). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ihungia Stream, which is in a Kapitean marine mudstone in New Zealand.
It was recombined as Congridarum mysticus by Schwarzhans (1980); it was recombined as Bathycongrus mysticus by Schwarzhans (2019).
