Ostrea haleyi was named by Hertlein (1933). It is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Ostrea idriaensis by Vokes (1935); it was recombined as Odontogryphaea haleyi by Squires and Advocate (1986); it was synonymized subjectively with Acutostrea idriaensis by Moore (1987); it was recombined as Pycnodonte (Phygraea) haleyi by Squires and Demetrion (1990); it was recombined as Phygraea haleyi by Squires (2018).
