Paulchoffatia was named by Kühne (1961).

It was assigned to Paulchoffatiinae by Hahn (1971), Hahn (1977), Clemens and Kielan-Jaworowska (1979), Hahn (1993), Kielan-Jaworowska and Hurum (2001), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004); and to Paulchoffatiidae by McKenna and Bell (1997), Hahn and Hahn (1998), Yuan et al. (2013).
