Taxonomy

Plagiaulax was named by Falconer (1857). Its type is Plagiaulax becklesii. It is the type genus of Plagiaulacoidea, Plagiaulacidae, Plagiaulacinae.

It was assigned to Marsupialia by Owen (1859); to Marsupialia by Owen (1871); to Allotheria by Marsh (1889); to Plagiaulacinae by Hay (1902); and to Plagiaulacidae by Marsh (1879), Marsh (1880), Marsh (1887), Lydekker (1894), Simpson (1928), Simpson (1929), Hay (1930), Hahn (1971), Clemens and Kielan-Jaworowska (1979), McKenna and Bell (1997), Kielan-Jaworowska and Hurum (2001), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).
