Ceratites (Philippites) was named by Diener (1907). It is not extant. Its type is Ceratites erasmi.

It was corrected as Ceratites (Phillipites) by Smith (1914); it was reranked as Philippites by Spath (1934), Tozer (1981) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Ceratites by Diener (1907) and Smith (1914); to Beyrichitidae by Spath (1934); to Beyrichitinae by Tozer (1981); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
