Aragochersis
The generic name is composed by Arago-, referring to the Spanish autonomous community of Aragon (Aragn in Spanish), to which the type locality belongs; and chersis, a Latinized word of Greek origin () which means land or dry land, following the criteria used to establish the generic name of some other terrestrial turtles, including some basal forms (i.e., Proterochersis and Palaeochersis).
It was assigned to Helochelydridae by Perez-Garcia et al. (2019).
