Katosira bavarica was named by Tichy (1980). It is not extant. Its type locality is Saalachsee, Bad Reichenhall, Ramsau Dolomite, Bavaria, which is in a Carnian shallow subtidal dolomite in the Ramsau Dolomite Formation of Germany.
