Taxonomy
Ophrystoma was named by Zittel (1877) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-u K Ceno-m Sepkoski's reference number: 622]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Ophrystomatinae.

It was assigned to Lychniscosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ophrystomatinae by Finks et al. (2004).
