Mahalalepis resima
Taxonomy
Mahalalepis resima was named by Young et al. (1992) [A megalichthyid with a narrow blunt snout, pronounced subnarial corners, two large supraorbitals, and a pronounced orbital notch about half way along the length of the fronto-ethmoidal shield. Posterior tectal bone has a longer supranasal than infranasal process, the frontal bone has a short contact with the posterior supraorbital, and the posterior nasal is long and narrow. ]. Its type specimen is CPC 27839, a partial skull (an incomplete fronto-ethmoidal shield), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Young et al 1992 Devonian Fish Locality 8, which is in an Emsian/Givetian marine siltstone/shale in the Aztec Siltstone Formation of Antarctica.
