Scelidotoma aldersoni was named by Powell and Geiger (2019). Its type specimen is LACMIP 14846, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LACMIP 31503, which is in a Langhian marine horizon in the Topanga Canyon Formation of California.
