Arakespongia was named by Rigby et al. (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-u Sepkoski's reference number: 205,262]. It is not extant. Its type is Arakespongia mega.
It was assigned to Lyssacinosida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pelicaspongiidae by Finks et al. (2004).
