Taxonomy
Toomeyospongia was named by Rigby et al. (1982) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 229]. Its type is Toomeyospongia apachensis.

It was assigned to Lyssacinosida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Toomeyospongiidae by Finks et al. (2004).
