Pecten diegensis was named by Dall (1898) [DISTRIBUTION: California-Baja California, Mexico (Recent); western North America (Pliocene).]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Pecten stearnsii diegensis by Rodda (1957); it was recombined as Euvola diegensis by Coan et al. (2000); it was recombined as Leopecten diegensis by Hendy (2021).
