Marginella subtrigona was named by Carpenter (1864). It is extant. Its type specimen is Redpath 81, a shell.
It was recombined as Hyalina (Cystiscus) subtrigona by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Cystiscus subtrigona by Valentine (1957); it was recombined as Granulina subtrigona by Marincovich (1976); it was recombined as Gibberula subtrigona by Skoglund (2002), Hendy (2021).
