Rissoa leighi was named by Brown (1839). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Newtown, River Irk, Bed 4, which is in a Wuchiapingian shallow subtidal packstone in the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Coelostylina leighi by Dietz (1911), Pattison (1970).
