Linglongtriton daxishanensis was named by
Jia and Gao (2019) [A medium-sized hynobiid-like salamander that differs from living and fossil hynobiids and hynobiid-like fossil taxa in having the following combination of characters: paired nasals separated from each other without midline contact; lacrimal entering border of external naris but not the orbit; prootic, opisthotic, and exoccipital retained as discrete elements; dentary with a lateral groove; articular not ossified; basibranchial II anchor-shaped; presacral count equals 16; caudosacral count equals five; scapulocoracoid with a shortened but expanded scapular portion; one centrale; distal tarsals 4 and 5 fused as a single enlarged element; metacarpal III enlarged; and pedal phalangeal formula 2-2-3-4-2.]. Its type specimen is PKUP V0277, a skeleton (articulated cranial and postcranial skeleton, with the posterior part of the right hemimandible and part of the autopods in the forelimb missing), and it is a 3D body fossil. Daxishan, Linglongta Township (NIGP collection), which is in an Oxfordian lacustrine - large mudstone in the Tiaojishan Formation of China.
