Taxonomy
Walliospongia was named by Rigby and Webby (1988) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Walliospongia gracilis.

It was assigned to Pelicaspongiidae by Rigby and Webby (1988); to Amphidiscosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Malumispongiidae by Finks and Rigby (2004).
