Taxonomy
Cidaris scarabellii was named by Stefanini (1907). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Serra dei Guidoni (Bologna), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian carbonate limestone in the Pantano Formation of Italy.
It was recombined as Tylocidaris (Sardocidaris) scarabellii by Borghi and Stara (2016).
