Chaoceratodus was named by Apesteguia et al. (2007). It is not extant. Its type is Chaoceratodus portezuelensis.
It was assigned to Ceratodontiformes by Apesteguia et al. (2007); and to Ceratodontidae by Panzeri (2023).
