Oistodus macrodentata was named by Graves and Ellison (1941).

It was recombined as Prioniodina macrodentata by Bradshaw (1969); it was recombined as Periodon macrodentata by Rasmussen (2001); it was recombined as Periodon macrodentatus by Stouge (2012).
