Zinsitys edwilsoni was named by Saul (1988). Its type specimen is CAS 60172.01, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS loc. 60172, Antelope Creek, which is in a Santonian marine siliciclastic in the Chico Formation of California.
