Pycnodonte loeli

Taxonomy
Ostrea loeli was named by Hertlein (1928) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Miocene; California-Mexico.]. Its type specimen is CAS 4117, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS 1153, San Augustin Canyon, Santa Rosa Island, which is in a Miocene coastal sandstone/shale in the Vaqueros Formation of California.

It was recombined as Ostrea vespertina loeli by Loel and Corey (1932); it was recombined as Pycnodonte (Pycnodonte) loeli by Moore (1987); it was recombined as Pycnodonte loeli by Hendy (2020).
