Taxonomy

Margaritiphora mazatlanica was named by Hanley (1855). It is extant.

It was recombined as Margaritifera mazatlanica by Hanna and Hertlein (1927); it was recombined as Pteria (Pinctada) mazatlanica by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Pinctada mazatlanica by Moore (1983); it was recombined as Pteria mazatlanica by Hendy (2020).
