Taxonomy
Stramonita petrosa was named by Conrad (1855). Its type specimen is USNM 3536, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Liracassis.
It was recombined as Dolium petrosum by Conrad (1849); it was recombined as Eudolium petrosum by Dall (1909); it was recombined as Galeodea petrosa by Schenck (1926) and Tegland (1931); it was recombined as Liracassis petrosa by Moore (1963) and Hendy (2020).
