Rhynchonella hanburyi was named by Davidson (1853). It is the type species of Yunnanella, Yunnanellina.
It was recombined as Yunnanellina hanburyi by Xueping (1995); it was recombined as Yunnanella hanburii by Williams et al. (2002).
