Taxonomy
Colombialepis villarroeli was named by Olive et al. (2019). Its type specimen is SGC-MGJRG.2018.V.19, a partial skull (anterior median dorsal plate), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Potrero Rincón 1, which is in a Devonian marine sandstone in the Cuche Formation of Colombia.

S. Olive et al. 2019An asterolepid antiarch, in which the premedian plate is as long as broad. The nuchal plate displays probably two divergent central sensory line grooves. The anterior median dorsal plate displays a narrow, elongated posterior part, lateral corners placed in the anterior half of the plate, and short anterior and posterior margins. The posterior median dorsal overlaps the posterior dorsolateral plate (or mixilateral plate). The ornamen- tation is made of vermiculate parallel ridges.
