Taxonomy
Staurasterias elegans was named by Blake (2017). Its type specimen is NMNH 92676 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Staurasterias elegans type locality, which is in a Chadian/Arundian carbonate carbonate in the Keokuk Formation of Indiana. It is the type species of Staurasterias.
