Proptychites arthaberi was named by Welter (1922). It is not extant. Its type locality is Nifoekoko, Niki Niki (Block "E" beds), which is in a Spathian carbonate limestone in Indonesia.
It was recombined as Proptychitoides arthaberi by Spath (1934), Kummel (1969).
