Taxonomy
Actinosepia mapesi was named by Larson (2010). Its type specimen is BHI-5863 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bear Creek gravel pit, which is in a Maastrichtian marine sandstone in the Fox Hills Formation of South Dakota.
