Trachyceras richtofeni was named by Mojsisovics (1882).

It was recombined as Anolcites richtofeni by Frech (1903); it was recombined as Paratrachyceras richtofeni by Arthaber (1915); it was misspelled as Anolcites richthofeni by Ogilvie Gordon (1927); it was recombined as Falsanolcites richthofeni by Rieber and Brack (2004).
