Plioplatecarpus crassartus
Taxonomy
Liodon crassartus was named by Cope (1871) [From the Lower Pierre Formation near Eagle Trail, Kansas]. Its type specimen is AMNH 1562, a partial skeleton (vertebrae and limb elements), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is near Eagle Tail, which is in a Campanian/Maastrichtian terrestrial horizon in the Pierre Shale Formation of Kansas.
It was recombined as Platecarpus crassartus by Cope (1874), Cope (1875), Hay (1930); it was recombined as Lestosaurus crassartus by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Prognathodon crassartus by Russell (1967); it was considered a nomen dubium by Konishi et al. (2010); it was recombined as Plioplatecarpus crassartus by Konishi et al. (2011).
It was recombined as Platecarpus crassartus by Cope (1874), Cope (1875), Hay (1930); it was recombined as Lestosaurus crassartus by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Prognathodon crassartus by Russell (1967); it was considered a nomen dubium by Konishi et al.
